About Bundles of Joy for Preemies, inc.
Sherri Goggin, a mother of five children (four born prematurely), is the founder of the Bundles of Joy for Preemies, inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
Along with the help of numerous community volunteers including the leadership of a dynamic Junior Board, the program supports premature infants and their families. The Bundles of Joy program provides a bundle bag containing a hand-made blanket, teddy bear and March of Dimes educational information. Additionally each bundle contains a music therapy CD developed by UGA professor, Dr. Roy Grant and students.
The Oconee County Girl Scout troop, lead by Kelly Hansford, took the initiative to publish a full color children's book, I Love You So Much and donated thousands of copies to be included with each bundle delivered to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) family.
To date, thousands of teddy bears and blankets have been collected and hand-made by volunteers across the Southeast to support the project. Athens Georgia's own Burton + BURTON Company has been a generous supplier of teddy bears.
Cumulatively, over 3000 bundles have been delivered to families throughout Georgia. Volunteers of all ages play an influential part in the program's success. The Bundles of Joy team is hard at work achieving their goal of raising awareness within the community as well as positively impacting the families of premature infants.
In 2011 the Junior Board of Directors refurbished and updated the NICU family waiting room at ARMC. To help decorate the room former preemie children in their preteens created original oil paintings to hang on the walls. Each painting is hung with a brass name plate stating the child's name, weeks premature at birth and current age.
The small dedication ceremony was highlighted in the ARMC newsletter, Nurses' Notes which can be seen here: Click Here
